about

Garrett Smith is a software engineer and engineering leader specializing in time-critical systems with nearly 30 years of experience in financial markets and industrial systems.

He spent over a decade at DRW, where he led the development of a front-office options trading platform used across exchanges including the CME, CBOE, Eurex and the OSE. His systems mass-quoted thousands of option contracts across nearly 100 products in real time, supporting market making, low-latency liquidity taking, and relative value arbitrage trades.

He has worked in Java, C#, Python, and c++, with most of his experience in Java and C#.

Beyond being an individual contributor, Garrett has led engineering teams including serving as Vice President of Engineering at Revenova, where he balanced hands-on development with team leadership and architectural modernization. He has hired and mentored engineers in the United States, the United Kingdom, India, and Australia.

He is currently focused on independent research, developing software that brings proprietary trading–level capabilities to smaller funds via the Interactive Brokers ecosystem. His work includes real-time risk reports, algorithmic trading, and tax-aware portfolio management.

Garrett has a degree in Chemical Engineering from Northwestern University specializing in process control software.
